The world is full of problems and challenges that feel overwhelming. But God is working to save and renew our world.  His saving, renewing work moves through all of us and it is called missions.

Murrow Indian Children' s Home
Kodiak Baptist Mission

During each year there are three special offerings taken in support of the American Baptist Churches' regular missions programs. Two cover national missions:

One Great Hour of Sharing
America for Christ

Murrow Indian Children' s Home     (no website)
Based in Muskogee, Oklahoma, this home has provided care to Native American children for over 100 years. Its ministry to children who are needy or have not had positive parental support has afforded it a place in the American Baptist Churches Institutional Support Plan. It '”cares for the mind, body, and spirit” through ministries that include residential care, crisis care, and day care. Murrow’s cottage-plan living provides the opportunity for children from broken homes and dysfunctional families to experience life – in family living – in a good way.  Murrow children attend Muskogee public schools or day treatment programs and receive counseling on a regular basis. Children are encouraged and helped to develop interests, character and personality. Murrow children are also encouraged to learn about their Native American background and attend cultural events.

Kodiak Baptist Mission           www.kodiakbaptistmission.org
This Mission was established in 1893 in Kodiak, Alaska, as an orphanage and has served Alaskans continuously since then. The Mission' s responsibilities have changed over time in providing up-to-date residential treatment for troubled young people.  For many of these children it is the last chance for change and reconcilitation before being sent to a more structured treatment program in Anchorage.  Kodiak Baptist Mission works from the concept that the family is the most important aspect of a child's life. By strengthening the family, they help children become successful. Here are a few services they offer at KBM: Christian preschool and daycare, after school recreation, a food bank, the Circle J Ranch, parenting education, addiction recovery programs, marriage seminars, and residential care which provides relief for families with special needs and a safe home with teaching parents for youth at risk or without shelter.

One Great Hour of Sharing
This offering supports emergency needs and food relief efforts. It shows our ability to step in and offer assistance to those in need, whether it’s clothing, feeding the destitute, or an emergency response to a natural disaster.  Examples are: Katrina, Asian tsunami, West Virginia flood damage.

America for Christ
This offering supports ABC ministries within the United States.  Focus is on youth, ethnic issues, and much more. A portion comes back directly to our region supporting American Baptist Church ministries.
